Dr. Cassidy is Research Director, Rehabilitation Solutions, Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis Program at Toronto Western Hospital and Director at the Centre for Research Expertise in Improved Disability Outcomes with the University Health Network. Originally trained as chiropractor, Dr. David Cassidy practiced in both Ontario and Saskatchewan, where he was a member of the Medical-Dental Staff at the Royal University Hospital and a consultant chiropractor to the University of Saskatchewan's Student Health Centre. He also holds a Bachelor's degree in Anatomy, a Master of Science in Surgery and a Doctorate in Pathology from the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. His second doctoral degree (Dr.Med.Sc. - Swedish Ph.D.) was earned in Epidemiology and Injury Prevention at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. Dr. Cassidy has authored over 175 scientific papers and chapters in books, including publications in the New England Journal of Medicine, Achieves of Internal Medicine, Spine, Pain, Medical Care, Clinical Epidemiology, Accident Analysis and Prevention, the Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine, the Canadian Journal of Public Health and the Scandinavian Journal of Public Health. His research interests include musculoskeletal and injury epidemiology. He was the scientific secretary for the World Health Organization’s Collaborating Centre Task Force on Mild Traumatic Brain Injury and is now the scientific secretary for the Decade of the Bone and Joint 2000-2010 Task Force on Neck Pain. His current research is focused on musculoskeletal disability from occupational and traffic injuries and health issues in artists.
